Faith Integration
Please watch the following video on “Applying the Scriptures to Coursework,” by Dr. Corne Bekker, Dean of Regent University’s School of Divinity.
Also, read this short article on “A Biblical Perspective for Research” by Dr. John Wesley Taylor V.
In this video, Dr. Bekker compares and contrasts purely academic (secular) scholarship and what he terms Ecclesial Scholarship (minutes 15-20 approximately in the presentation).
He notes that ecclesial scholarship is measured and evaluated quite differently than we might evaluate academic scholarship. Specifically, ecclesial scholarship is:
1. Measured by primary engagement with Scripture
2. Written to a believing community and
3. Measured by its ability to renew the church
He argues as well that everyone who practices Christian scholarship is a theologian, regardless of their discipline. This is because Christian scholars are always reading the Bible, being affected by the Bible, and thinking about the connections between their academic discipline and God’s teachings to us.
As you watch his talk (take good notes), prepare some answers to these questions in this week’s discussion forum.
Compare and contrast the standards which Johnson and Creswell & Creswell have iterated for academic scholarship (including causal relationships, reliability, prediction, replicability, falsifiability, verification, etc.) Do you feel that these standards for academic scholarship are at odds with, or complementary to the standards which Dr. Bekker describes for ecclesial scholarship?
What are the normative commitments which Dr. Bekker implies that an ecclesial scholar should have? Are these normative commitments (what you are attempting to prove or to do or change?) at odds with, or complementary to the project which one has outlined for oneself within a purely academic context? In other words, does having a set of normative Christian commitments pose an issue for the academic integrity of your scholarship in some way?
At minute 22:30, Dr. Bekker tells us that “Christ is the only answer to the problems that we face in this world.” In what ways is Christ the only answer to a public policy problem which you have identified as interesting to you as an RSG student? Is there a particular scriipture that speaks to you when you think about the public policy problem which interests you? (Remember, YOU ARE A THEOLOGIAN!!)
What is the relationship between Christian thought and action as spelled out by Dr. Bekker? Is this the same or different from the relationship between academic/research thought and action? What do you think?

The logic model is a visual depiction of how the organization will engage in act

The logic model is a visual depiction of how the organization will engage in activities that allow it to achieve the organization’s mission by focusing on strategic goals and high priority objectives.
In this assignment, you will have the opportunity to create goals and objectives linked to a mission and then use a logic model to show how the objective will be accomplished.
Step 1: Identify an example of a mission statement (cite source).
Step 2: Provide one outcome goal (cite source). Explain how the outcome goal is linked to the mission.
Step 3: Create a SMART objective that will help the organization achieve the goal. Explain how the objective is specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time bound.

In this paper, I want to explore the increase in traffic fatalities an serious bodily injury crashes. I also want to explore the efforts governmental agencies are making to reduce crashes. Through funded campaigns live, Vision Zero, and others.
A worldwide campaign is picking up steam again since it was introduced in 1995 and is called “Vision Zero.” It is an international program that aims to achieve a transportation system with no fatalities or serious bodily injuries involving roadway traffic. It is a multi-functional system where all aspects of roadway safety are taken into consideration, such as roadway design, speed limits, law enforcement educational/enforcement campaigns, and the design of the automobile. This is one of the main programs that aim to reduce tragedy but this paper will explore multiple programs that increase roadway safety.
The Final Report must be in American Psychological Association (APA) format, using the
following standard guidelines:
1. Title Page: Provides the title, author’s name, date of submission, and fulfillment statement.
2. Abstract/Executive Summary: Provides a summary of the report. In less than two pages, it summarizes the Project, including the issue or problem examined the method of inquiry and your conclusions and recommendations.
3. Table of Contents: Provides the organization of the report. Lists the major section and subsection headings of your report and the pages on which these subjects can be found.
4. Introduction/Issue or Problem Statement: States the issue or problem, the context in which the issue or problem lays and why it is important.
5. Literature Review: Uses research techniques to locate the issue or problem you are addressing with similar issues/problems and resolutions. It connects your research/internal organizational work to a larger body of experience and grounds your work in the current
knowledge of the field. Include the Scholar assignment in this section.
6. Methodology: Describes what you did and how you did it. The methods section describes all the steps and processes by which you determined the resolution to the issue or problem.
7. Findings: Report what you found. This section methodically lists the information you found to be true or un-true in an organized format, which allows the reader to consider the
outcomes of your research.
8. Discussion, Recommendations, and Conclusions: The final section is your interpretation of the data where you make recommendations based upon your interpretation of the findings. In this section you draw conclusions make recommendations and reflect on the process of your investigation. You would also state the limitations of your data and conclusions in this section. Include the Mission assignment in this section.
9. References: In APA style.
10. Appendix: Research data, tools, explanatory notes and lists are organized as appendices, and do not count toward the 35-page minimum.

Please provide the name and the name of the organization that you will be interviewing.
NONPROFIT LEADER INTERVIEW PRESENTATION
Interview a nonprofit leader with regard to the following:
What ethical values are important for nonprofit organizations & their leaders? Why?
What actions reinforce important ethical values in the organization? How do these examples help lead the organization?
What particularly challenging or thorny issue(s) have they faced? How were those challenges met & what can be learned from these issues in terms of ethics?
What expectations & standards does the board hold? What expectations & standards do other constituents hold?
Create a Power Point presentation that you will present to the class asynchronously using Screencast-o-matic. Students will record themselves presenting their Power Point, upload the recording to the drop box.
The beginning of the presentation should include a brief summary about the organization, its history, purpose, and mission of the organization. You can use any additional sources, including the text. The last slide should be a reference slide. Check your APA citation manuals for the proper way to cite an interview. The presentation should include 8-10 slides.

For the assignment this week, the goal is to construct a logic model for a program of your choosing (Grant Proposal). Use the format found in chapter 5 of the text (Figure 5.2, Sample Logic Model). This is attached.
Make sure to include assumptions and external factors. For additional help, review Logic Models at http://fyi.uwex.edu/programdevelopment/logic-models/.
The logic model must be included in the report using the proper template.
1. A descriiption of the program as well as a paragraph that explains the logic model, what was selected as important and why; focus on the difference between outputs and outcomes.
2. Does the logic model consider formative or process evaluation?
3. Explain how the mission, goals, and objectives are connected as illustrated in the logic model.
4. Make sure to cite your sources properly.

Regardless of the discipline, the first step in developing a program is conducting a needs assessment. This systematic approach seeks information from clientele or secondary sources as to a gap or need – a societal, personal, economic, or environmental issue, for instance, that must be addressed and that requires some planned actions to have a positive impact on improving or changing the identified situation.
To prepare for this discussion:
• Reflect on the process for conducting needs assessment and process evaluation.
To complete this week’s discussion:
Describe how you would design a needs assessment of a human service program (or program you are familiar with) that combines secondary data, impressionistic, and community surveys. Be sure to describe:
o The program
o The purpose of the needs assessment.
o How a logic model will inform the design of the needs assessment.
